2024 Oscar Nominees and Winners: The Full List

Our Rating

March 11, 2024–Early critics’ awards seemed to predict an exciting, unpredictable Oscars. But in the major awards leading up to the big night, the major awards (with the exception of Best Actress), were pretty much locked in place. Oppenheimer and Poor Things had the biggest hauls, garnering statues for Actor (Cillian Murphy), Supporting Actor (Robert Downey, Jr.), and director (Christopher Nolan), as well as, of course, the seemingly preordained Best Picture. The Holdovers’ Da’Vine Joy Randolph added to her huge haul of accolades for Supporting Actress, and other favorites like Barbie, Anatomy of a Fall, American Fiction, and Zone of Interest had to settle for an award or two.

Even though Killers of the Flower Moon had 10 nominations, it started to seem like it’s best bet for an award was for Lily Gladstone’s sublime, heartbreaking lead performance. But voters threw their love at Poor Things‘ Emma Stone’s fearless and wild Bella Baxter. It seems everyone agreed that both women (along with the rest of the Best Actress nominees) gave fabulous performances, so it was hard to disagree with the decision. But I’m sure I’m not the only one that felt that Lily Gladstone, as the first Native American nominee for a competitive Oscar, was the biggest winner of the season. A refreshingly gracious presence in interviews and acceptance speeches, she gave a much-needed voice to the many many folks underrepresented in Hollywood. She says she kicked in the door in order to hold it open for others. Thanks, Lily, for a fabulous run… We’re looking forward to your next work!
