It had been a full year since I’d watched iZombie when Season 2 of this quirky show came into my life. I wanted to see it and knew it would be good, but I had forgotten that iZombie is fabulous. In case you’ve also forgotten, iZombie is the story of Liv Moore (Rose McIver), a medical resident whose life was turned on its ear when she fell victim to a zombie attack at a boat party. Now a zombie herself, Liv’s life plans have been dramatically altered. Instead of marrying her sweetheart and becoming a doctor, Liv now works at the Seattle Coroner’s Office where she can use her skills, feast on brains, and work on a cure with her boss, Ravi (Rahul Koli).

After consuming a new brain, Liv takes on some of the traits of the brain’s owner, as well as fragments of their memories. The memories aid in solving the victims’ murders, and the personality changes keep everyone on their toes. Each episode brings us a slightly different version Liv: crotchety, uncharacteristically racist Liv, frat boy Liv, trophy wife Liv, pathological liar Liv, and so on. The constant changes in her character add to the show’s wry humor, but continue to complicate Liv’s life. Her world is a delicate mix of people who know her secret and those who don’t, and it’s a constant challenge balancing her zombie life with her old Liv life.

Season 2 of iZombie follows the formula that made Season 1 so enjoyable, but it also expounds nicely upon Liv’s rather singular experience of straddling both human and zombie worlds. Her search for the cure continues, relationships evolve, and more crimes are solved thanks to Liv’s unique abilities. In short, a good time is had by all (at least all of us watching).
