In an interesting new twist to the Disney’s oft-rereleased video packaging, this latest version of The Little Mermaid (the 30th Anniversary Signature Collection Edition) indeed offers all the previous extras and more… but digitally. With consumers moving away from physical media, it is a savvy move to sell a sleeker version of the physical release, but offer all the previous extras (in this case the plethora of offering from the Diamond Blu-ray Edition) as digital-only content. The handful of new extras (on disc and digital), are the featurettes “Alan Menken and the Leading Ladies” (featuring Broadway stars Jodi Benson (Little Mermaid), Paige O’Hara (Beauty and the Beast), Judy Kuhn (Pocahontas), Lillias White (Hercules), and Donna Murphy (Tangled) discussing their work with Alan Menken; “Stories From Walt’s Office: Gadgets and Gizmos” goes inside Walt Disney’s office; and “What I Want From You Is…Your Voice” about the voice actors.
