Moviepie was founded in the early 2000s by Linda Gwilym, a movie lover who didn’t see herself represented among online reviewers: female, unpretentious, and unafraid to admit she enjoyed movies with talking animals. So she decided to learn HTML and build the kind of site she wanted to read.
Over the years, Moviepie has grown into a community of opinionated film fans, primarily based in the Pacific Northwest and Toronto. Most of our regular contributors are women, and all share a deep passion for movies.
Moviepie has always been a labor of love. We cover new releases, streaming picks, film festivals, and whatever else inspires us on any given day. You won’t find exhaustive coverage of every major release, but we hope you’ll enjoy exploring our archives.

How we review
Moviepie’s rating system is straightforward—who doesn’t like pie? The more slices, the better. Movies are rated from 0 slices (for the rare film with no redeeming value) to 8 slices (a full pie) for the best of the best.
Reviews and ratings reflect the opinions of the individual reviewer.
Screeners and disclosures
We accept screener solicitations from studios, distributors, and PR firms, and we occasionally host giveaways and contests.
