2025 Oscar Nominees and Winners: The Full List

Moviepie Slices

March 3, 2025–It was just a couple months ago that the world watched as towns like Pacific Palisades and Altadena were reduced to ash overnight. First-time Oscars host Conan O’Brien seemed to find a good balance, keeping the evening relatively breezy (with an assist by the Dune sand worm), while acknowledging that the city was recovering from a disaster that affected not just the glitzy stars, but many many folks that work in the industry.

This year’s Oscars were certainly an awards-season-long horse race. Critics’ awards were all over the place, and momentum for certain films seemed to peak too early, too late, or not at all. France’s musical Emilia Pérez led with a whopping 13 nominations, but scandal with lead actress (and first trans nominee) Karla Sofía Gascón’s past racist tweets derailed her campaign and most likely affected the film’s early momentum. The Brazilian drama I’m Still Here, in turn, benefited from the building buzz. And the little cat that could, Flow, surprised everyone (except for those of us who saw and loved the film) by beating Hollywood mega-animation studios at their own game. But it was the wild sex-worker comedy Anora—and especially writer/director/editor/producer Sean Baker—that walked home with the most awards of the evening.

Ken Jennings comments on Demi Moore not winning the Oscar.

I’d say it was a shock and delight to see Mikey Madison win Best Actress (over the favorite Demi Moore for The Substance), but my Oscar party screamed at the TV for a different reason. Literally just before the tearing of the envelope to announce arguably the most anticipated award of the night, our Hulu event suddenly logged off with a jaunty error screen: “Thank you for watching! This live event has now ended.” I had to scramble to find a decent ABC live feed, just to see Mikey in mid-thank you. I know the evening needed a little jolt of surprise, but Hulu, don’t do that to us!
