Oh, man, I’m a sucker for Downton Abbey. I swear, if they release a new chapter every decade, I’ll be watching until the Crawleys are all gone and Downton is filled with social media influencers and all their drama. OK, well, maybe not then… but I do fantasize that the true final chapter will have Lady Mary living in a decrepit Downton à la Grey Gardens, served by a descendant of one of the beloved house servants.
This new trailer gives me a surge of such delight, seeing Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery), Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville), Carson (Jim Carter), Mrs. Patmore (Lesley Nicol), Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael) and all the rest one more time, still wringing their hands about the upstairs and downstairs of the fancy estate. Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale teases at (gasp!) scandal as Lady Mary inherits the estate and seems to be in the middle of a mess that spells D-I-V-O-R-C-E across the headlines. Oh, dear.
SYNOPSIS: Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, the cinematic return of the global phenomenon, follows the Crawley family and their staff as they enter the 1930s. When Mary finds herself at the center of a public scandal and the family faces financial trouble, the entire household grapples with the threat of social disgrace. The Crawleys must embrace change as the staff prepares for a new chapter with the next generation leading Downton Abbey into the future.
Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale is coming to theaters September 10, 2025.
