First teaser for Antoine Fuqua's Michael (Jackson, that is!)

I have to admit I gasped in anticipation when I saw the release announcement for the first teaser for Michael, the first big-screen biopic attempt of Michael Jackson’s life. There’s so much that can go so wrong with this (the family and estate is heavily involved) yet so right (it’s got a respected director in Antoine Fuqua, and patriarch Joseph Jackson died in 2018 so maybe this is the next generation’s chance at owning the story). After a heavy talent search, Jaafar Jackson was cast as Michael. Who’s he? None other than Jermaine Jackson’s son. OK, count me in. Honestly, the 13-year-old MJ-obsessed fan in me has been planning on seeing this regardless. Regardless of the fact that Jaafar doesn’t look a lot like his uncle, I have to admit that the teaser trailer got me hyped!

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS: Michael is the cinematic portrayal of the life and legacy of one of the most influential artists the world has ever known. The film tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of the Jackson Five, to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world. Highlighting both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career, the film gives audiences a front-row seat to Michael Jackson as never before. This is where his story begins.

Michael is coming to theaters April 24, 2026.
