Tap tap tap DROP! The strange but true story of ‘Tetris’

Our Rating

MPAA Rating: G

I can vouch that the super-simple game of Tetris is the most addictive video game ever. In the late 80s, it was the only game on my college roommate’s Mac, and we’d literally wrestle for the right to play it for a few hours. It was only recently that I learned about the very strange but true story of how the game came out of the Soviet Union, and all of the nefarious dealings that went in to getting it out of that country and into the hands of game-addicts the world over. It’s a no-brainer for a dramatized adaptation… and now (yay!) Tetris, starring Taron Egerton, will be coming to Apple TV+.

SYNOPSIS: Tetris tells the unbelievable story of how one of the world’s most popular video games found its way to avid players around the globe. Henk Rogers (Taron Egerton) discovers Tetris in 1988, and then risks everything by traveling to the Soviet Union, where he joins forces with inventor Alexey Pajitnov (Nikita Efremov) to bring the game to the masses. Based on a true story, Tetris is a Cold War–era thriller on steroids, with double-crossing villains, unlikely heroes, and a nail-biting race to the finish.

Tetris will be streaming on Apple TV+ starting March 31, 2023.
