Gary Lane is the co-director of Still Working 9 to 5, which looks back at the iconic 1980 comedy 9 to 5, its mega-talented cast, the impact the film had upon its release and its ongoing relevance some 40+ years later. We posed our Qs à la mode to Gary, and here’s what he shared!
If I had to describe my film using only five adjectives, they would be: “Entertaining, informative, funny, shocking, courageous.”
The thing that surprised me most about my film’s subject(s) was: “How much people really embrace and love the 9 to 5 film. Such a fandom.”
My favorite moment/scene/sequence in my film is:
** SPOILER ALERT **
*
*
“I personally love when fans see Dolly and Kelly Clarkson pop up on screen for the end credits and perform their new duet!”

*
** SPOILER-ALERT WARNING LIFTED. You may read freely once again! **
The toughest part of the whole shoot was: “All of the archival to clear for fair use. We have over 1,000 clips and photos that fans will love.”
My most invaluable piece of doc-making gear was/is: “Our cinematographer Brian Tweedt’s 8K RED camera. The interviews are stunning.”
My go-to, get-me-through snack of choice for long shoots or epic editing sessions is: “Coffee! With skinny and sweet!”
