Even though there have been a few staggering-out-of-the-pandemic box office sensations–from Spider-Man: No Way Home over the 2021-22 holidays, to the more recent massive big-screen blockbuster of Top Gun: Maverick–lots of people are staying at home to watch their movies instead of going to the theater. In a surprisingly wide-reaching, coordinated push, about 3/4ths of the nation’s theaters, from major chains like AMC and Regal, to local independent screens, are participating in National Cinema Day on September 3, 2022. The lure? See any movie, at any time, in any format that day (yes, including 3D and IMAX) for only $3 + tax. As one of my friends said, “I literally want to be in a movie theater all day and night on Saturday!”
Find a participating theater near you (and there are LOTS) at Nationalcinemaday.org. And seriously, if you haven’t seen it go see Maverick on the biggest screen you can find… it’s awesome!
