Reviews by Linda

I'm the founder of Moviepie.com where I've written reviews for over two (!) decades. I'm a member of the Seattle Film Critics Society (SFCS) since 2022 and GALECA (the Society of LGBTQ+ Entertainment Critics Association) since 2025. I'm based in the Seattle area. My favorite films include Gone With the Wind, Purple Rain, and A Room With a View. I have a fondness for what I call "space stories" and movies with talking animals. I don't believe there is such a thing as a guilty pleasure movie. Own what you love!

Compartment No. 6

Compartment No. 6 (Hytti nro 6) (2021)

There’s a certain delight in seeing a movie completely cold, knowing nothing about it, except that it takes place on a train. I hadn’t heard anything about Compartment No. 6, so it was pleasing to have this character-driven drama slowly unfold in unexpected ways. A Finnish woman, Laura (Seidi...

The Burning Sea

The Burning Sea (Nordsjøen) (2021)

The Burning Sea is a solid disaster flick that seems like it is missing its final act. Not necessarily because of plot and build up, but simply because it is called, well, The Burning Sea. I wanted to see flames and explosions and full-on marine-burning disaster–but the truth is,...

Uncharted

Uncharted (2022)

If real-life treasure hunting were only as easy as grabbing an ancient “X marks the spot” map from a museum! Well, it can be when you have a movie based on a video game that does just that to get the party started. In Uncharted, we follow the adventures...

I Want You Back

I Want You Back (2022)

Romcoms are a special sort of comfort food, like a big bowl of caramel popcorn, a fuzzy blanket, and soft pants. The setup is totally formulaic: You know that as soon as you meet the leads, that they will be destined to get together by the end of the...

Death on the Nile (2022)

Death on the Nile (2022)

Despite its gorgeous cast and intriguing trailer, I wasn’t chomping at the bit to see Kenneth Branagh’s latest Agatha Christie adaptation. I agreed with Moviepie’s Vickie that 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express was a snoozefest that managed to waste an amazing cast of actors, seemingly so Branagh himself...

Moonfall

Moonfall (2022)

Moonfall is a big, dumb movie, that I enjoyed on a big awesome screen, with a big, stupid grin on my face the whole time. It’s the type of movie that is so silly that the crowd both laughs at the movie and with it. Honestly, it felt like...

Halloween Kills

Halloween Kills (2021)

Halloween 2021 (the real-life holiday) was in sore need of good, spooky jolt of fantasy entertainment (to make us forget the real life horrors of the year). Turns out that following the Facebook posts of a local guy wandering my suburb dressed as Michael Myers turned out to be...

Midnight Mass

Linda’s Best of 2021… aka My Most Memorable Pandemic Viewing (Again?)

Here we are again. Who would have thought we’d still be here, two years into a pandemic, with 800,000+ Americans dead, with apparently no end in sight (and that is with vaccines)? We are all weary, wanting things to go back to some semblance of normal, but then another...

The Matrix Resurrections

The Matrix Resurrections (2021)

Twenty-ish years after the events of the original Matrix trilogy, shaggy, middle-aged Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) seems to be sleepwalking through his daily reality. A big-time video game designer of a huge hit reality-melting game called, yes, The Matrix, Thomas seems in a daze, popping the blue pill prescribed...

Being the Ricardos

Being the Ricardos (2021)

Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz are cemented in pop culture lore as the married duo that produced and starred in the huge (we’re talking tens of millions of weekly viewers) 1950s television comedy “I Love Lucy”. Playing a married couple on screen, Lucille Ball’s Lucy was a goofy, gifted...

National Champions

National Champions (2021)

It’s a few days before the college football national championship. All players, coaches, and high roller supporters are firmly ensconced in a hotel overlooking the stadium. It’s 72 hours away from the game, and I’d like to say that the anticipation is exaggerated for the sake of the movie,...

Nightmare Alley (2021)

Nightmare Alley (2021)

Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley is an undeniably gorgeous film noir, right from the opening scene. We see a man rip up the floorboards in a decrepit remote house, put a body into the floor, and light the whole house on fire. The flames and the pieces of the...
